Conference Photo

Dear conference participant,

Our meeting is quickly approaching, and we are now in the process of preparing the Abstract Booklet, which will include the titles and abstracts of all the talks and posters. However, we notice that some of you have not yet sent us the Abstract of your presentation. With this message we would like to provide you with a final opportunity to do so. (If you have already submitted your Abstract, we are very grateful for your help. If you so wish, we are glad to offer you an opportunity to update your submission at this time, but no later than Oct. 14. If you do not wish to update it, we will consider the last version that you submitted as the definitive one.)

If we do not receive your Abstract by Oct. 14, we will be unable to incorporate it into the Abstract Booklet. If you have requested to present a poster, you must submit your Abstract by the same deadline, or else you will be unable to display it during the conference. Please note that, in order to ensure that your contribution is properly processed, the Titles and Abstracts must be submitted through our web interface (http://pulsation2016.contactochilecom.cl/abstracts).

   Sincerely,

   Wolfgang Gieren & Márcio Catelan

SANTIAGO-CALAMA-SANTIAGO FLIGHT INFORMATION

For those who have confirmed their attendance to the Conference and have not already done so, and are not waiting for Financial Support, we urge you to book your return flight Santiago-Calama-Santiago, as soon as possible.

PULSATION 2016 will take place in the middle of summer peak season un San Pedro de Atacama for tourists, plus there are many mines and mine related industries in the area, plus Sunday is the day most workers return to Calama to resume their activities on Monday morning.

We ask that you send us your return flight information once you have made your reservation.

Thank you very much.
Kind regards,

The Event Management Team

IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING DEADLINES

As some of you have noticed, our web page has been experiencing problems over the past few days. We sincerely apologize for these issues, which our informatics team is currently working hard to solve. In the meantime, please note that the deadline for registration has been extended until JUNE 30

The absolute final deadline for the actual payment of the registration fee and (if applicable) excursion and conference dinner is AUGUST 15. Earlier payments would however be gratefully appreciated.

We again remind participants that the credit card number supplied upon registration will NOT be charged at ANY stage of the process! It is requested with the sole purpose of booking a hotel room for the participant. It is the responsibility of each participant to pay her/his hotel expenses upon check-out, either using the same credit card, a different one, or cash.

For the benefit of some participants who need the information to secure funding, a tentative program with the contributed talks already included will be published shortly before August 15. The final program, with the definitive list of contributed talks and posters, will be published by AUGUST 30

For those participants who have already registered but have not supplied a title and abstract, we kindly request that you do so at your earliest convenience, but no later than JULY 30, using the "Abstracts" menu on our web page. Those who have sent their abstracts by e-mail are also kindly requested to re-submit them using the same web interface.

We look forward to seeing you in Chile at the end of the year!

   --Wolfgang Gieren & Márcio Catelan

  • ongoing and future surveys (photometric and spectroscopic, from the ground and from space, in different wavelength regimes)

  • synergies with extrasolar planets and transient surveys

  • statistical challenges, automated classification, machine learning techniques

  • asteroseismology

  • the distance scale

  • stellar pulsation theory

Please check the meeting web page regularly for program updates and the latest news (http://pulsation2016.contactochilecom.cl/). Recall that the deadline for registration is May 30, and that the ALMA tour will be offered on a “first come, first serve” basis only!

P.S.: If you are traveling from the U.S., we recommend that you book your air tickets well in advance, as your departure will most likely coincide with Thanksgiving weekend, and prices tend to rise sharply as this holiday approaches.

Third Announcement

We are pleased to announce that the conference web page, where you can find more information about the venue, registration, and lodging options, is now online (this URL). Registration is now open as well; please recall that access to the ALMA tour will be done on a “first come, first serve” basis, so make sure you register as soon as possible! Deadlines are listed based on the official time in continental Chile (GMT -3:00).

The meeting will be held at Hotel Cumbres (URL), and we have reserved blocks of rooms at six additional nearby hotels, all within walking distance (2.5 km). Since prices have been painstakingly negotiated by us directly with the hotel owners, you will only be able to book a room in one of these hotels by registering through our website. It is very important for the successful outcome of our organization that you do not attempt to book your room by other means and/or at different hotels! Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this regard.

Limited support will be available for students and postdoctoral fellows. When you register, please make sure to specify your needs accordingly.

From this point onwards, if you have any questions regarding the logistics, please contact

Andrea Lagarini (e-mail) and/or Soledad Varela (e-mail).

We look forward to seeing you in San Pedro in a few months!

Márcio Catelan & Wolfgang Gieren

Second Announcement

We are pleased to announce that the 22nd edition of the Los Alamos Stellar Pulsation Conference Series will take place at Hotel Cumbres in San Pedro de Atacama, northern Chile, in the period between Nov. 28 and Dec. 2, 2016. The Scientific Rationale, along with the SOC and LOC compositions, are listed below. We will actually start with a welcoming cocktail reception on the evening of Sunday Nov. 27, and the science sessions will end by lunch time on Dec. 2.

San Pedro, in the midst of the Atacama Desert, is located at a privileged position, both in terms of its spectacular landscape and state-of-the-art astronomical infrastructure. We are organizing a whole-day visit to the ALMA Observatory site on Wednesday Nov. 30, as part of the official program. Availability is limited, and participation will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis, upon payment of the registration and additional tour fees. Those who are unable to secure a place should not despair, as the San Pedro de Atacama region is widely recognized for offering some of the most amazing tours worldwide (see, e.g., this URL) – even including astronomical ones (URL)!

The web page of the event, with further details regarding registration fees, lodging options and scientific program, will become available soon, and will be circulated in the third announcement.

As a special treat to the conference participants, we point out that the meeting will take place under dark sky conditions, thus providing – weather permitting – a breathtaking view of the southern sky.

We look forward to the opportunity of sharing this life-changing experience with you!
